It’s a pleasure for me to have this opportunity
to discuss a couple of issues that have significant impact on all of us
at CSI. Mike Mason is meeting this week with members of the Faculty
Senate and Pace to begin serious consideration of our heath insurance benefits
and whether or not we should seek an alternate insurance carrier. This
decision has long-term ramifications, so this committee has a vital responsibility.
We have also been informed by the Governor that
funding for higher education will be static this coming year, but we are
still hoping to provide a general salary increase if at all possible.
This is our #1 priority.
Recently in a discussion with one of my peers,
he indicated that they had formed a “fun” committee on his campus and each
month they participate in some campus-wide activity where the main object
is just to have a great time and encourage faculty, staff, and students
get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. It might be something for
us to investigate during these times of limited revenues and ever increasing
individual responsibilities.
